We are currently recruiting a summer student as a Community Liaison Support Worker.  The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting individuals who have high medical needs as well as physical and developmental challenges to access their community on a variety of levels.  The main tasks will be to assist in the development and execution of day, recreation and leisure options for the individuals, both within the day placement location, in the community and in the residence.  The student will ensure that all activities assist the individuals to succeed within their home community and to enhance their quality of life.  The student will display a comfort with computers and will be able to develop and design newsletters, community information flyers etc. with minimal technical assistance and will support with fundraising initiatives.  This position is for 8 weeks at 30 hours per week.  Shifts will be variable in nature including evenings and weekends.
 
Qualifications:
  • Able to establish therapeutic relationships on the basis of respect and trust
  • Demonstrated understanding of support requirements specific to individuals with complex needs
  • Support individuals with daily living while pursuing leisure and recreational opportunities
  • Ability to write clear, concise observations of daily activities and interactions
  • Advocate on behalf of individuals to achieve goals
  • Proven computer skills, Microsoft Office preferred
  • Ability to use sound judgment and make independent decisions based on Policies & Procedures
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem solving skills; attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to work in partnership with families
  • Demonstrated ability to work well as part of the team
  • A valid Ontario (G) Driver’s Licence, current Police Records Check & Vulnerable Position Screening
  • Pursuing post secondary education in a related field or equivalent
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have some experience in community support services for individuals with complex medical needs. 
 
Eligibility Criteria:  To be eligible to participate in the Canada Summer Jobs initiative, individuals must:
  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
  • Have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
  • Be Canadian citizens, permanent residents or persons to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, and,
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
Work Location:           Connect Centre – Exeter, ON
 
Wage:                          $15.00 per hour plus 4% vacation pay
