Job Description

LITERACY AND BASIC SKILLS INSTRUCTOR

The School of Adult, Alternative and Continuing Education requires permanent Literacy and Basic Skills Instructors to deliver the Literacy and Basic Skills program to an adult population throughout the Thames Valley District School Board. This position involves working with adults in regular Literacy and Basic Skills programming.  The candidate must be willing to coordinate some activities and communicate regularly with Employment Services and Ontario Works offices.


POSITION:                   Literacy and Basic Skills Instructor
LOCATION:                  London workzone and Elgin workzone
START DATE:               As soon as possible
HOURS OF WORK:      5 hours night school (London workzon) + 5 hours day school (Elgin workzone) 
RATE OF PAY:              $30.30 per hour (not a member of the Ontario College of Teachers)
                                      $38.43 per hour (a member of the Ontario College of Teachers)

QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of an undergraduate university degree with excellent English grammar and writing skills, mathematics proficiency and computer knowledge are required. The successful candidate must have an awareness of the characteristics and needs of adult learners with lower literacy/numeracy skills. A numeracy and word processing assessment may be required for the candidates selected for an interview.
