Cheshire is a non-profit organization that has dedicated 35 years to meeting the attendant service needs of individuals with physical disabilities in the London area and five surrounding counties. With Cheshire’s Supportive Housing, London Outreach and Senior’s Supports for Daily Living programs, we assist adults with physical disabilities and frail seniors to live independently in their communities through the provision of personal support services that are mutually respectful and value the contributions of all. By keeping a ‘Person Centred Support’ philosophy, Cheshire empowers consumers by tailoring each individual’s care to meet their own unique needs, interests, requests and preferences.

Position Title: Summer Nursing Student/Personal Attendant
Status: Temporary Full-time
Program(s)/ Department(s): London Outreach/ Supportive Housing
Hours per week: Varies
Rate of Pay: $18.76/hr. + mileage + travel time (booking to booking)

Job Summary
Responsibilities in a Personal Attendant role include but not necessarily limited to: personal grooming, bathing, washing and hygiene; toileting and routine, stabilized bowel/bladder care; getting up and going to bed; transfers, lifts and other assisted mobility needs; meal preparation, serving clean up and assisted eating; cleaning and laundry; escort to appointments, range of motion and general fitness exercises; injectable insulin; tracheotomy care; and intermittent catheterization.

Responsibilities
Guided by the consumer, a Personal Attendant will support the individual with activities of daily living.
The Personal Attendant will follow established company policies and procedures to ensure a high service standard. Working as a team or in a one-on-one environment, the Personal Attendant will be confident in their decision making skills, their abilities to embrace a ‘Person Centred Support’ philosophy while maintaining the consumer’s dignity and freedom of choice.


Qualifications and Requirements
- A personal vehicle and both a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance
- Proof of current CPR and First Aid certification
- Be available to work a variety of shifts including mornings, afternoons, evenings and weekends
- Be able to rotate on Pager and On-call pager responsibilities as a normal part of your working week
- Presentation of a negative PVSC
- Strong verbal communication, solid assessment abilities, can provide care as directed by consumer

Working conditions and Physical Requirements
- Ability and knowledge of proper body mechanics to ensure safe lifting and transferring techniques
- Attention to detail, memorizing consumer bookings and each individual’s preferences
- Physical demands of this role are repositioning, bending, kneeling, squatting, pushing, pulling, reaching, climbing/descending stairs, walk, sit, and stand
