We are one of the largest not-for-profit providers of licensed child care in Canada and have over 100 school age programs across our regions. We also offer settlement services to newcomers, employment programs, mental health support, and youth programs. YMCA of Southwestern Ontario operates one overnight camp on Beausoleil Island in Muskoka. We also have 15 Health & Fitness branches across Southwestern Ontario.

Position: Outdoor Centre Director, Camp Henry
Summary: The Outdoor Centre Director oversees the planning, booking, and delivery of Outdoor Education programs for schools and community groups, as well as Outdoor Recreation experiences for families and organizations. This role is responsible for developing curriculum plans and program materials—including lesson plans, program overviews, staff training resources, teacher preparation guides, and booking processes—for groups visiting Camp Henry during the fall, winter, and spring seasons. The Director also provides on-site coordination and supervision during operating periods. In the initial six months, the focus will be on creating robust educational program materials, preparing information packages for prospective groups, collaborating with colleagues to promote and secure bookings, and actively engaging with teachers and school board representatives to build the required level of participation for long-term sustainability
Location: YMCA Camp Henry - Point Pelee National Park, Leamington, ON
Start Date: December 9, 2025
Salary: $45,000
Working conditions:
• Will also work with adult and family participants in delivering programs for these populations
• Requires working in an outdoor environment in all weather conditions
• The role is physical in nature with a lot of standing, walking, running, playing, swimming and possibly lifting if programs or participant needs dictate
• During operating season, requires a flexible schedule including evening and weekend work, as well as ability to reside in-residence on-site during group bookings
In this role you will:
• Plan, book, and deliver outdoor education programs for schools and community groups, and outdoor recreation experiences for families and organizations
• Develop curriculum plans, lesson materials, and teacher guides that align with educational standards and leverage the unique features of Point Pelee National Park
• Promote Camp Henry programs to schools and community groups across Southwestern Ontario through in-person and digital outreach
• Coordinate and supervise Outdoor Centre staff during operating seasons, ensuring high-quality programming, risk management, and exceptional participant care
• Create booking systems and processes that make program registration efficient and user-friendly
• Recruit, train, and coach seasonal staff, providing ongoing feedback and performance evaluations
• Monitor budgets, track bookings, and manage program resources to meet financial targets
• Build strong relationships with Parks Canada and other partners to enhance program delivery and operational support
• Adapt programs creatively to meet diverse user needs and respond to environmental conditions
• Live on-site during operating seasons to oversee programs and ensure smooth operations
Education & Skills Qualifications:
• 2-4 years’ leadership experience in a camping or outdoor education environment, overseeing programs and staffing
• YMCA experience is preferred but related work considered
• Skills in Healthy Child/Adolescent Development, supervising and coaching staff
• Computer knowledge in MS Office using Word and Excel
• Must provide a vulnerable sector check as per the Association’s policy
• Standard First Aid and CPR C
• Must have own transportation, and able to travel to schools, community groups, events, YMCA locations and the Camp Henry site
